Blog 13: Real Life Monsters

Anyone can be labeled as a monster. When we label people as monsters it’s because of the bad things that they have done. An example of a person who we see as a monster is Adolf Hitler. We see him as a monster because of all the bad things he did while he was alive. No one in their right mind would ever think of committing such a heinous crime. He was an evil man with no remorse for the bad things he had done. In the reading Nation and Race, Hitler states, “No more than Nature desires the mating of weaker with stronger individuals, even less does she desire the blending of a higher with a lower race

According to the Horror in the Mirror, Richard Tithecott reveals,  Halloween director John Carpenter, commenting on the success of The Silence of the Lambs, remarks, “I think we’re all frightened of the unknown and also of the repressed people in our society” (301). We are sometimes frightened of the things we don’t know exist but it also excites us. When we label people as monsters it makes us feel better about ourselves.
